A riot of Renaissance and Baroque nature music. Passionate Italian works balance delicate Elizabethan songs and character pieces. Visionary virginal music combines with expressive images by internationally-known earth-scientist and artist Othmar Tobisch. A meet-the-artist reception follows for donors and subscribers.

Across 3 centuries, the mandolin 'naturally' traveled throughout Europe and North America with immigrants, and was adopted by folk musicians nearly everywhere. Evoking the delights of al fresco concerts, the mandolin also caught the attention of Vivaldi, Beethoven and other composers (more program information). As a prelude to our mandolin tour, we will also present the grand prize winners of our Youth Chamber Music Competition.

A musical voyage
through inner space with Johann Sebastian Bach's last and most 'cosmic' work
is accompanied by a visual journey through the universe with recent views of
the galaxy from earth and space, provided by renowned UCSC astronomer Raja
GuhaThakurta. Sounding from nearly 4 centuries ago, Bach's vivid counterpoint
is mirrored by the visual data of telescopes, acting as time machines by
revealing our universe's rich and mysterious past (more program

SC Baroque
Festival's Concert IV, Listening to Nature - Musique Plein Air, presents a
mid-spring celebration of nature and music. The virtuosic early-instrument
ensemble Lux Musica will paint musical landscapes by French and Bohemian
baroque composers, complementing a selection of sprightly madrigals by the
award-winning Kirby Chamber Singers.(more program information)
Special Event: Accompanying this concert will be a small lobby-exhibit of works by plein-air painters, including including artists Michele Hausman and Nancy Leigh Hillis.
